What is homeopathy and how does it work?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which looks at the whole person. Homeopathy can help with physical as well as mental and emotional complaints. Homeopathy stimulates and strengthens the self-healing mechanism of the body, so the body and mind can heal itself.
Homeopathy recovers the balance of the self-healing mechanism of the body and mind, so the body and mind can heal itself.
In principle, a person stays healthy through his immune system. What are commonly referred to as illnesses or symptoms are the attempts of the self-healing (or self-repairing) mechanism to restore health, for example through fever, pain, or infection. We experience these attempts at recovery as complaints. These attempts at recovery cannot always be successful, because the self-healing mechanism may be out of balance.
The Law of Similars
Homeopathy works according to the ‘The Law of Similars’.
The Law of Similars states that homeopathic remedies that cause certain symptoms in a healthy person are curative in a sick person with similar symptoms. In other words, ‘Like cures like’.
The Law of Similars works as follows, for example, when someone chops up an onion, his eyes become watery and his nose becomes runny. In homeopathy, an onion is used in a very diluted form to treat someone with similar symptoms. So, in this case, complaints such as watery eyes and a runny nose, in for example hay fever, can be treated with this homeopathic remedy made from an onion (Allium Cepa).
Instead of using conventional medicines to suppress and treat symptoms, homeopathic remedies strengthen the body’s own immune system so that the body can heal itself and fight off diseases.
